Cimolai Technology has successfully unmoored and departed the first of two 800-ton Goliath cranes from the Port of Chioggia, destined for the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone. The transfer involved a series of coordinated operations, including the temporary opening of customs gates, controlled transit of the SPMT convoy, and tide-assisted loading with assistance from two Panfido tugboats. The crane is now securely positioned on BOA Barge 38 for its journey.
This operation is part of a broader initiative to design and construct two new 800-ton Goliath gantry cranes. Cimolai’s engineering team is focused on creating rail-mounted cranes tailored to the existing layout, incorporating lattice structures to minimize weight and wind load. Additionally, winches will be strategically placed on the lower beams to lower the center of gravity, enabling tandem lifts of up to 1,600 tons.
This design approach maximizes lifting capacity while minimizing structural loads, ensuring compatibility with existing constraints and avoiding disruptions in production. Once operational at Fincantieri Monfalcone, these cranes will significantly enhance the shipyard’s capabilities in building advanced vessels.
