Everllence is set to launch its Engine Supported Air Lubrication (ESAL) solution, designed to enhance fuel savings from air lubrication systems. Unlike traditional systems that utilize electrically driven compressors to pressurize ambient air, ESAL harnesses pressurized scavenge air directly from the main engine. This innovative integration reduces electrical consumption and boosts overall system efficiency, while the engine control system monitors airflow for safe operation.
Targeting the growing demand for air lubrication, particularly among large container vessels and LNG carriers, Everllence’s ESAL aims to deliver estimated fuel savings of around 3.5%. The technology is compatible with various engine types, including the G95ME series, whether for new builds or retrofits.
Nikolaos Kourtidis, Director of New Technologies & Market Development, notes that while engines share similar scavenging air pressures, specific vessel designs necessitate different air demands. Consequently, each ESAL project will be assessed individually to ensure optimal technical alignment.
Everllence will provide the necessary engine design and control systems for ESAL integration, while air lubrication manufacturers will interface directly with shipowners and operators. The technology is anticipated to be available by Q4 2026.
