The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has recently established a new maritime control zone in the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz, as reported by the Tasnim News Agency on Monday. This announcement underscores Iran’s ongoing efforts to assert its influence in this vital waterway, which is crucial for global oil transportation.
According to the Iranian state broadcaster, the newly designated area will employ “smart control” measures. This zone stretches from Mount Mobarak in Iran to the southern region of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, it encompasses the line from the southern tip of Qeshm Island in Iran to Umm Al Quwain in the UAE.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for maritime trade, with a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passing through its waters. The IRGC’s move to establish this control zone could have implications for regional security and international shipping routes.
