The European Commission has completed the initial phase of its Hydrogen Mechanism under the EU Energy and Raw Materials Platform, attracting significant interest from market participants. This initiative allows hydrogen producers to assess demand for their projects and identify potential buyers without the complexities of separate processes. A total of 265 supply opportunities were registered, encompassing renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives.
European offtakers responded positively, with 45 projects registered and 87% of supply opportunities generating interest. This engagement provides offtakers with essential market intelligence to inform their procurement strategies and evaluate entry into the emerging hydrogen market. The matching phase has concluded, and participants are now encouraged to connect directly for potential collaborations.
The Commission plans to build on these promising results by considering further steps for the Hydrogen Mechanism, particularly in supporting infrastructure development. The registered supply opportunities included 47 projects for renewable or low-carbon ammonia, 37 for methanol, and others for e-SAF and e-Methane. Participants hailed from 33 countries, including 16 EU nations, with demand requests spanning 10 EU countries.
