Artemis Technologies has unveiled the world’s first fully electric hydrofoil pilot boat, the Artemis EF-12 Pilot, which offers a zero-emission solution for pilot transfer operations. As ports globally aim to decarbonize, this innovative vessel is currently undergoing sea trials, with customer deliveries anticipated soon. Designed specifically for pilotage, the EF-12 combines electric hydrofoil technology with a layout focused on operational efficiency, safety, and crew comfort.
Measuring 12 meters, the vessel employs Artemis’ eFoiler hydrofoil system, allowing it to lift above the water, significantly reducing drag. It boasts cruise speeds of 28 knots, a top speed of 32 knots, and a foiling range of up to 45 nautical miles. The design accommodates sea states with significant wave heights of up to 2.5 meters while safely operating in displacement mode in seas up to 4 meters.
Dr. Iain Percy, CEO of Artemis Technologies, emphasized that the EF-12 Pilot leverages proven foiling technology to meet pilotage demands, enhancing global port operations. Early adopters include Brabo in Belgium and the Swedish Maritime Administration, indicating a rising interest in high-performance, zero-emission transfer vessels. The EF-12 is built to Lloyd’s Register standards and supports rapid charging, replenishing batteries in under an hour.
