On June 25, 2026, two Indonesian crew members from a fishing boat went missing after the vessel capsized in waters southeast of Busan, according to maritime authorities. The incident occurred when the 79-ton fishing boat collided with a 992-ton liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier at approximately 10:10 a.m. local time, as reported by the Ulsan Coast Guard.
The collision resulted in all eight crew members—comprising two South Koreans and six Indonesians—being thrown overboard. While the LPG carrier successfully rescued six crew members, the two missing Indonesians, both in their 30s, have not yet been found. The Coast Guard has initiated a search operation, deploying patrol boats, helicopters, and other resources to locate the missing individuals.
One of the rescued crew members is reportedly in critical condition. In response to the incident, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has ordered the mobilization of all available resources for the rescue operation and to manage the situation following the accident. This directive came after the president received a briefing on the incident, as stated by presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung.
