A crew member aboard the luxury cruise ship Hebridean Princess tragically fell overboard while the vessel was navigating the Sound of Mull off Scotland’s west coast. Police Scotland reported that a body was discovered in the water near Corran Esplanade in Oban around 8:30 p.m. on June 16. Authorities have stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.
The incident occurred on the evening of June 16, during a seven-day cruise that began on June 9. Following the man-overboard incident, the ship’s crew initiated emergency response protocols and promptly alerted HM Coastguard and Police Scotland. The cruise operator expressed deep sadness over the loss, emphasizing their support for the investigation and extending condolences to the crew member’s family, friends, and colleagues.
At the time of the incident, there were 38 individuals onboard. The Oban Coastguard Rescue Team was dispatched shortly after the report was made. While the investigation continues, details regarding how the crew member fell into the water have not yet been disclosed. Hebridean Island Cruises is cooperating fully with the authorities in their inquiries.
