HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has recently entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with several companies, including HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, HD Hyundai Robotics, and KCC, to collaboratively develop and commercialize a Total Hull Care Solution. This initiative aims to enhance hull management through advanced technology, combining expertise from shipbuilding, robotics, and marine coatings.
The Total Hull Care Solution is designed to provide real-time diagnostics of hull conditions, ensuring effective cleaning and performance verification. The participating companies will focus on developing autonomous underwater robots for hull diagnosis, condition monitoring, and optimizing fuel efficiency based on operational data. HD Hyundai is spearheading efforts to automate the entire hull maintenance process, from diagnosis to cleaning and verification.
A representative from HD Hyundai emphasized that this initiative marks a pioneering effort in the industry by integrating shipbuilding, paint, and robotic technologies. The aim is to create a new business model for ship maintenance that not only enhances operational efficiency but also contributes to reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions in the maritime sector.
