Hoyer has introduced the Hoyer ESS (Energy-Saving System), a specialized system designed for retrofitting on active vessels. This innovative solution allows shipowners, operators, and fleet managers to significantly reduce motor energy consumption by 40-65%, decrease emissions, and enhance operational efficiency without the need for drydocking. With environmental regulations becoming stricter and fuel costs on the rise, there is a growing demand for optimizing vessel efficiency, making the Hoyer ESS a valuable tool in meeting these challenges.

The Hoyer ESS utilizes Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), intelligent sensors, and automation to dynamically control engine room fans, seawater cooling pumps, freshwater cooling pumps, and other marine applications. This not only results in energy and fuel savings but also reduces CO₂, SOx, and NOx emissions while extending the lifespan of critical ship equipment. Palle Grankvist, Global Business Development Manager of Automation Solutions at Hoyer, emphasizes that the system is a unique and scalable retrofit solution that delivers tangible results, providing shipowners with easy-to-implement solutions that offer rapid returns on investment and immediate operational and environmental benefits.

In a recent installation with a European shipowner, the Hoyer ESS achieved annual energy savings of over 1.4 million kWh, fuel savings of 290 tons, and CO₂ reductions of 628 tons, with a payback period of less than two years. The system is designed for seamless integration, allowing installations to be completed while vessels are in operation without any service interruptions. This launch aligns with Hoyer’s commitment to developing advanced automated solutions for motor applications across various sectors, including marine, industrial, HVAC, and energy, following the acquisition of software automation developer NowiTek earlier this year.
