Iran has accused the United States of openly recognizing its unlawful maritime actions following comments made by the US president regarding the seizure of Iranian vessels. Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, stated that the US has effectively admitted to acts of piracy in its maritime operations.

In a post on X, Baghaei highlighted that the US president referred to the capture of Iranian ships as “piracy” and even boasted about acting “like pirates.” He emphasized that these remarks represent a clear acknowledgment of wrongdoing. Baghaei argued that this was not merely a slip of the tongue but a direct admission of the criminal nature of the US’s actions against international maritime navigation.

Furthermore, Baghaei called on the international community, including UN member states and Secretary-General António Guterres, to take a strong stance against such actions. He urged them to categorically reject any normalization of what he described as blatant violations of international law. The Iranian government is seeking global support to address these maritime disputes and uphold international legal standards.
