Iran has reaffirmed that the Chabahar Port project remains on schedule despite ongoing sanctions. The Iranian ambassador to India emphasized the port’s significance as a critical access point for India to Central Asia and Afghanistan. Progress continues unabated, with notable advancements in supporting infrastructure, including the Chabahar-Zahedan railway link, which is nearly complete. This railway will enhance connectivity by linking the port to Iran’s national railway system, thereby strengthening trade routes in the region.
In addition to the railway, Iran is investing in public infrastructure, such as healthcare and hospitality projects, to develop the region into a sustainable economic hub. Addressing maritime security concerns, the envoy assured that vessels from allied nations, including India, can safely navigate the Strait of Hormuz. Iran is committed to upholding international maritime norms and has taken steps to ensure the safe passage of Indian vessels, especially those involved in energy supplies.
On the geopolitical front, Iran expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue with the United States but emphasized the need for a stable and lasting peace rather than temporary solutions. The country reiterated its right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy and highlighted the necessity of lifting sanctions for meaningful negotiations to occur. The envoy dismissed claims of instability within Iran, asserting the nation’s readiness to face ongoing challenges while welcoming diplomatic initiatives that respect its sovereignty.
