Weathernews Inc. has introduced SeaNavigator Mobile, a mobile app for iOS and Android aimed at enhancing how shore-based operations teams monitor vessels and manage communications. This is the first version of the SeaNavigator platform tailored for shore users, offering real-time vessel position tracking, AIS-based alerts, and a streamlined workflow for confirming voyage plans, replacing traditional email and phone processes.
In a notable case, a route change notification that typically took 24.5 hours to process was completed in just 30 minutes using SeaNavigator Mobile. The operations manager was able to review and respond to the notification directly within the app, significantly speeding up the decision-making process.
The app features three main capabilities: a real-time map for fleet oversight, organization of vessels into private or shared groups synchronized with the SeaNavigator web platform, and notification filtering to prioritize alerts based on vessel group relevance. Its AIS-based alert system detects abnormal vessel behaviors, such as slowdowns and drifting, while minimizing false positives.
Future enhancements will include push notifications for unanswered confirmations, automatic plan transmission upon approval, and features allowing operators to request changes directly through the app. SeaNavigator Mobile complements Weathernews’ SeaNavigator for Master, an AI-driven tool designed to assist captains with navigation and voyage planning.
