The Mission to Seafarers has responded positively to recent reports of an agreement concerning the Strait of Hormuz. Peter Rouch, the organization’s Secretary General, acknowledged this development but emphasized that the repercussions of the ongoing conflict will linger for seafarers and their families long after trade resumes.

Rouch expressed hope that this agreement could signal the start of a lasting period of stability in the region. He noted that if this optimism is realized, it presents an opportunity for the shipping industry and governmental bodies to address critical welfare issues highlighted by the conflict. These include ensuring safe evacuation protocols for vessels caught in sudden hostilities, guaranteeing humanitarian access, and facilitating the repatriation of crews stranded due to conflict.
