OneCare Group, a leading health and wellbeing provider, is collaborating with shipping companies to assist seafarers affected by the escalating conflict in the Strait of Hormuz. This region has experienced significant disruptions to maritime transit due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, leaving crews in a state of prolonged uncertainty. Since February, many vessels have been immobilized, leading to extended tours of duty for seafarers, who are increasingly concerned about their safety and the wellbeing of their families.
In response to the psychological and operational challenges faced by crew members, OneCare Group is enhancing its support framework. This includes 24/7 telemedical assistance, increased welfare outreach, and wellbeing monitoring for those remaining onboard beyond their standard contracts. The organization is also providing support to the families of seafarers. Through its subsidiary, Mental Health Support Solutions (MHSS), OneCare has ramped up proactive wellbeing check-ins and offers immediate access to confidential counseling for those experiencing stress or anxiety.
Mariana Charalambous, Managing Director of MHSS, emphasized the cumulative psychological toll of extended periods at sea amid uncertainty. Many seafarers are grappling with not only the stress of conflict but also the emotional strain of prolonged separation from loved ones. OneCare Group is committed to maintaining clear communication between onshore management and vessels to reduce uncertainty and foster trust during this critical time.
The organization continues to work closely with shipowners, operators, and insurers to create a coordinated response that addresses both immediate risks and the long-term impacts of operating in high-risk environments. OneCare Group remains dedicated to supporting the global maritime community and safeguarding the wellbeing of those who facilitate international trade.
