The new cruise ship, named Mein Schiff Relax, recently completed its first sea trials in Italy. Built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, the ship is the largest in the fleet at 160,000 gross tons and the first to feature a dual-fuel LNG propulsion system. During the trials, the ship demonstrated excellent maneuverability, passing tests such as a 360-degree turning circle maneuver and a crash 180-degree turn. The ship, measuring 1,093 feet in length, will undergo further tests of its LNG propulsion system in the coming weeks.

Mein Schiff Relax incorporates new design elements, including an innovative bridge, improved catalytic converters, and a shore power connection. Powered by two Azipods, the ship can also operate using future bio- or e-LNG fuels. Passengers can expect a range of amenities on board, such as 14 restaurants, 17 bars and lounges, a 25-meter swimming pool, and a design focused on relaxation. The ship is part of an expansion of the brand catering to German-speaking passengers, in a joint venture with Royal Caribbean Group.

Construction of Mein Schiff Relax began in June 2022, with the ship floated out in November 2023. It is set to enter service in March 2025, sailing from Malaga, Spain to the Canary Islands. A unique christening event is planned for April 9, 2025, where Mein Schiff Relax will be joined by two other ships from the fleet. Work is also underway on the line’s ninth cruise ship, Mein Schiff Flow, with the second LNG vessel expected to enter service in 2026.
