Construction has commenced on a new 48-meter catamaran passenger ferry, designed by Incat Crowther for Hy-Line Cruises, at Midship Marine in Louisiana. This vessel will serve essential tourism and commercial routes linking Hyannis, Massachusetts, with Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
The ferry is designed to accommodate up to 493 passengers across three decks and can achieve speeds exceeding 30 knots, tailored for the unique conditions off Cape Cod. It will be powered by four Cummins QSK60-M Tier 4 engines, driving four Hamilton HTX65 waterjets, ensuring efficient propulsion.
The lightweight aluminum hull and superstructure enhance the vessel’s performance, while composite shafting from Driveline Service of Portland minimizes maintenance needs. Additionally, the ferry features active ride control technology from Naiad, ensuring safe and comfortable operations.
Key specifications include a length of 157 feet 5 inches, a beam of 34 feet 5 inches, and a draft of 6 feet 10 inches. The ferry will have a fuel capacity of 4,000 gallons and a fresh water capacity of 660 gallons, making it well-equipped for its operational demands.
