Indian Ambassador Honors MT Settebello Crew Before Their Repatriation

India’s Ambassador to Oman, Prashant Pise, recently met with 21 crew members of the Palau-flagged oil tanker MT Settebello before their repatriation. During this meeting, he expressed support for the seafarers and commended their resilience amid the crisis, while also acknowledging the tragic loss of three sailors.

The MT Settebello was attacked on June 11, 2026, around 30 nautical miles off Sohar, Oman, with 24 Indian crew members on board. Indian and Omani authorities successfully conducted a joint search-and-rescue operation, resulting in the rescue of 21 crew members. Unfortunately, the incident claimed the lives of Chief Engineer Patnala Suresh, Deck Cadet Aditya Sharma, and Fitter Shivanand Chaurashiya.

The Indian embassy reiterated its commitment to the welfare of Indian nationals abroad, emphasizing its readiness to provide swift assistance and ensure the safe return of citizens in distress. Ambassador Pise expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life during the attack, underscoring his support for the surviving crew members as they prepare for their journey home.
