Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) recently laid the keel for a second 60-tonne bollard pull tug for the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), with VPA chairperson Jasmeet Singh Bindra presiding over the ceremony. Officials from VPA, HSL, the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), and Solas Marine were also in attendance.
This vessel, contracted in December 2025 and built to IRS specifications, follows closely on the completion of its sister tug, which has exceeded 60%. Both tugs are expected to be launched together this October. Notably, this marks HSL’s 13th vessel delivery to VPA since their first collaboration in 1970.
Bindra emphasized that these tugs would significantly enhance port operations, improving safety and reducing turnaround times. He praised HSL for its adherence to timelines and highlighted the companies’ long-standing heritage in Vizag, serving the nation for over 90 years.
HSL Chairman Chandrasekharan Raghuram expressed gratitude to VPA officials and affirmed HSL’s commitment to future projects, including the development of a 60-tonne electric tug, green fleet conversions, and a shipbuilding complex at Dugarajapatnam.
