TEHRAN – Iran showcased its expertise in the implementation and operation of the Maritime Single Window (MSW) and the Integrated Maritime Management System (IMAS) during a specialized regional meeting of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) held in Batumi, Georgia. The event, which took place in September 2026, attracted representatives from countries in the Caspian and Black Sea regions, including Iran, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, and Romania. Iran was represented by Soheila Shibani-Moghaddam, a senior ICT and smart ports expert, and Hossein Sedighi, head of the Bushehr Port Affairs Department.
During the meeting, Iranian officials outlined their progress in implementing the MSW and highlighted the achievements of IMAS, a system developed domestically that facilitates maritime services and electronic data exchange among stakeholders. This aligns with the IMO’s standards for the MSW, emphasizing the importance of digitalization in maritime operations. Iran’s focus on its operational experience and indigenous capabilities garnered significant interest from IMO experts and representatives from other nations.
The workshop also addressed critical topics such as data standardization, electronic information exchange, and regional cooperation on the development of Port Community Systems (PCS). Notably, the event featured the active participation of an Iranian female expert, underscoring the professional contributions of women in maritime technologies and navigation, alongside Iran’s technical advancements in the field.
