The Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) is set to hold its mid-term meeting in India for the first time, marking a significant milestone in promoting diversity and leadership within the global maritime sector. To celebrate this event, WISTA India will host the inaugural WISTA International EXCO Conference on April 9, 2024, themed “Navigating Change: The Future of Sustainable Shipping.” This conference will address key challenges and opportunities in the maritime industry, focusing on environmental sustainability.
Summiit Cheema Sharma, President of WISTA India, expressed her excitement for hosting this important conference. She highlighted India’s commitment to sustainable shipping, citing government initiatives like the Maritime Development Fund aimed at fostering green vessels and ports. This underscores India’s efforts to transition towards renewable energies and technologies to lower emissions.
Elpi Petraki, President of WISTA International, noted the importance of the meeting in India as a vibrant maritime hub, emphasizing the vital role women play in this industry. The conference aims to celebrate women’s contributions while setting a direction for a more inclusive and sustainable maritime future.
