RINA, a prominent global ship classification and consulting engineering group, has enhanced its Singapore Open Innovation Hub with backing from the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). This initiative aims to expedite innovation within the maritime and energy sectors by translating applied research into practical solutions that have a significant industry impact. The Hub acts as a collaborative platform, bringing together industry stakeholders, academic institutions, and technology partners to tackle pressing challenges.
The initiative focuses on three main areas: the development of integrated digital twin technologies to optimize the performance of vessels and ports while minimizing emissions; creating decarbonization solutions, including alternative fuels and new operational models; and establishing AI-driven learning platforms to enhance workforce skills and facilitate the adoption of new technologies. The Hub’s efforts will include applied research, industry pilot projects, and large-scale deployments, emphasizing practical and scalable outcomes.
RINA plans to expand its Singapore-based research team by adding 11 new specialist roles over the next three years. The Singapore Open Innovation Hub is part of RINA’s global network, reinforcing its status as a key player in innovation and fostering the creation of sustainable, technology-driven solutions across the maritime and energy sectors.
