Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract to supply equipment for a new offshore support vessel being built by Polish shipbuilder CRIST S.A. for Norwegian vessel owner DOF Group. The 110-meter long DP3 ice-class vessel, named Sea Dragon and designed by MMC Ship Design, will be capable of accommodating 164 persons and will be equipped for various offshore operations including crew changes, drilling support, safety standby, emergency towing, and ice management. The vessel’s steel-cutting ceremony took place on January 7, with delivery expected by the first quarter of 2027.

The Sea Dragon will feature a range of Kongsberg Maritime systems, including the DC main switchboard, battery hybrid system, main power generator, thruster induction motor, and distribution transformer. The vessel’s battery-hybrid propulsion system will consist of two 1 MWh battery packs and a DC electric system to maximize operational efficiency, leading to potential fuel savings of up to 35% compared to similar vessels. DOF has also selected Kongsberg Maritime technology for navigation, automation, control systems, and the K-Pos Dynamic Positioning system (DP-3) to support its offshore operations.

In addition to Kongsberg Maritime’s equipment, MAN will supply six 12V175D high-speed variable speed gensets for the vessel. Palfinger Marine will provide a comprehensive equipment package, including a fully electric, frequency-controlled winch system, a stern roller, and the Palfinger Hose Securing System (HSS). These collaborations aim to enhance the vessel’s capabilities and efficiency for offshore activities. The integration of advanced technologies and equipment signifies a significant step towards modernizing and optimizing offshore support operations.
