Founded in 1970, MSC has grown into a formidable player in global shipping. In 2020, the company appointed Soren Toft, former COO of Maersk, as CEO to expand its fleet. Under Toft’s leadership, MSC aggressively pursued growth, acquiring new vessels and chartering older ones throughout the pandemic.

By early 2022, MSC surpassed Maersk to become the largest carrier by fleet size, commanding a fleet of 1,000 ships and a capacity of 7.3 million TEU. This impressive scale positions MSC as a dominant force in the industry, controlling one-fifth of the global boxship fleet, with over 120 newbuilds on order.
