Finnish company Steerprop is set to launch its first tunnel engines in the coming months, responding to a growing demand for reliable, high-performance engineering solutions. With a robust initial order book, Steerprop’s new designs challenge traditional tunnel contractor approaches, offering project-optimized options that ensure competitive initial and lifecycle costs.

Early projects include tunnel thrusting for Finnish patrol ships and a significant cable deflection drop, showcasing Steerprop’s ability to meet rigorous operational demands. Over 50 previously ordered TT engines demonstrate that the company’s custom, purpose-built designs fulfill operator needs for safety, reliability, and cost-efficiency.

Sales & Project Development Director Juha Rekola highlighted that tunnel flows are often overlooked, leading to mismatched performance and maintenance challenges. Steerprop’s design philosophy focuses on optimizing each tunnel to align with specific vessel requirements, enhancing comfort by reducing vibrations and underwater noise.

The latest offering, the 2,100 kW SP 40 TT, is designed for high-performance offshore vessels, with a versatile range from 500 to 7,000 kW available for various applications. A model will be showcased at Nor-Shipping in Oslo, highlighting Steerprop’s commitment to innovation in the maritime sector.
