President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. welcomed Oman’s ambassador to the Philippines, Nasser bin Said bin Abdullah Al Manwari, at Malacañang, reinforcing the strong bilateral relations between the two nations. Marcos expressed gratitude to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and the Omani government for their role in the release and repatriation of Filipino seafarers held captive by Houthi rebels in 2025. He also acknowledged Oman’s royal pardons granted to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
During the meeting, Marcos praised Oman for its prompt action in allowing Filipinos to return home amid rising tensions in the Middle East, calling the Gulf state a “reliable partner” during crises. Ambassador Al Manwari reiterated Oman’s commitment to supporting the Philippines and its citizens, delivering a letter from the Sultan to Marcos.
Both leaders voiced concerns over the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, emphasizing the importance of resolving issues through dialogue and diplomacy. Marcos also commended Oman for hosting the 2nd Oman–Cebu Investment Forum in Muscat, which attracted over 80 Filipino business leaders, and expressed anticipation for the next forum in Manila.
The diplomatic relationship between the Philippines and Oman, established in 1980, continues to flourish across various sectors, including political, labor, and economic spheres. Currently, nearly 49,000 Filipinos reside and work in Oman, marking 46 years of diplomatic ties this year.
