“K” LINE and Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, have announced a trial of Inmarsat Maritime’s NexusWave bonded network service on “K” LINE’s fleet. NexusWave integrates multiple high-speed networks in real time to enable fast, always-on ship-to-shore communications. This trial aims to enhance digitalization of ship operation, environmental response, and seafarer welfare. The trials are set to begin this month.
NexusWave, launched in May this year, offers high-speed connectivity, unlimited data, global coverage, and secure infrastructure for office-like and home-like experiences. It combines Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band, low-Earth orbit (LEO) services, and coastal LTE service for fast, always-on connectivity. Akihiro Fujimaru of “K” LINE highlighted the importance of fast, reliable global connectivity for safety, quality, and crew well-being. NexusWave is expected to meet these needs with the upcoming launch of high-capacity ViaSat-3 Ka-band satellites.
Inmarsat Maritime President Ben Palmer OBE expressed gratitude for “K” LINE’s decision to trial NexusWave. The partnership aims to provide robust and reliable connectivity solutions to support operational success and long-term strategic needs. “K” LINE’s early adoption of this global service demonstrates their commitment to leveraging advanced technology for competitive advantage. The focus is on sustaining and enhancing operational efficiency through digitalization initiatives.
