In real-world tests, Inmarsat Maritime’s NexusWave bonded connectivity service has proven to be a powerful solution for ships at sea. The service achieved impressive maximum download speeds of 330–340 megabits per second and maximum upload speeds of 70–80 Mbps. Average download and upload speeds were also impressive at 120–150 Mbps and 20–45 Mbps, respectively, with network availability exceeding 99.99%. Unlike traditional load balancing methods, NexusWave combines multiple underlays in one bonded connection, allowing applications to leverage the aggregate capacity of all available networks for superior reliability and redundancy.
The unique network-bonding approach of NexusWave ensures seamless and uninterrupted connectivity, even in challenging maritime environments. In real-life testing, the quality of a video conference remained unaffected by the availability or quality of a single network underlay, thanks to dynamic traffic routing adjustments. Inmarsat Maritime President Ben Palmer emphasized the exceptional performance of NexusWave, highlighting its ability to achieve speeds of 340 Mbps that no individual underlay network could achieve alone. Customers benefit from a fully managed service that offers unlimited data, global coverage, enterprise-grade security, and round-the-clock technical support.
NexusWave is designed to provide ‘connected confidence’ to maritime customers, offering managed performance levels regardless of the vessel’s location or requirements. The solution also ensures full transparency on the total cost of ownership. In the future, NexusWave will integrate the next-generation ultra-high capacity, high-speed ViaSat-3 Ka-band service to further increase aggregated connectivity speeds. This continuous improvement approach ensures that customers have complete connected confidence amid evolving challenges and requirements.
