Ammonia Dual-Fuel Marine Engine Technology Commercialization Launched by Mitsui E&S

Japanese Consortium Plans Ammonia Bunkering Operations

MITSUI E&S has successfully commercialized large ammonia-fueled marine engines and fuel supply systems, becoming the first Japanese manufacturer to achieve this milestone.

In February 2026, the company conducted land-based tests of its ammonia dual fuel engine, the MITSUI-Everllence B&W 7S60ME-C10.5-LGIA-HPSCR, which was observed by ClassNK. These tests verified that the engine meets the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) NOx emissions regulations.

To support the anticipated demand for ammonia engines, MITSUI E&S plans to expand its testing and production facilities. This expansion will facilitate mass production of ammonia engines and fuel systems compatible with both its Everllence and WinGD licensed engines.

This strategic move positions MITSUI E&S at the forefront of the maritime industry’s shift towards sustainable fuel alternatives, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and environmental compliance.
