V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port) reported a significant rise in wind turbine blade handling, managing 2,188 blades from April to August 2026, which is a 74.5% increase from the 1,254 blades during the same period in FY 2025-26. The number of vessels transporting these blades also grew, reaching 52 compared to 39 in the previous year, indicating a growing need for port infrastructures capable of accommodating large renewable energy components.
The port’s performance aligns with a broader trend of increasing wind turbine blade volumes over recent years, handling 2,030 blades in FY 2023-24 and a record 4,922 blades in FY 2025-26—a remarkable 86.8% increase from the prior year. This growth reflects the expanding logistics demands in India’s renewable energy sector, particularly regarding the transport of sizable components.
To support this demand, VOC Port has dedicated significant space for wind turbine components, including 1,00,000 square meters outside and 1,44,000 square meters inside the Customs-notified area. The infrastructure includes berths equipped for handling large cargo with trained personnel and mobile cranes. Chairperson Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit emphasized the port’s commitment to developing capabilities for the burgeoning renewable energy logistics sector in alignment with India’s clean energy goals.
