On Monday, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel unveiled the Gujarat Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Policy 2026, which aims to position the state as a premier hub for shipbuilding and maritime manufacturing both nationally and globally. With a coastline stretching approximately 2,340 km, Gujarat is set to capitalize on its extensive port infrastructure, robust industrial ecosystem, and rich maritime heritage.
The policy emphasizes the development of modern infrastructure, the adoption of advanced technologies, sustainable practices, and investor-friendly initiatives. It aligns with the central government’s Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme 2025 and Maritime Vision 2047, as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s broader vision for an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
A significant aspect of this policy is the establishment of Integrated Mega Shipbuilding Parks (IMSPs). The central government has already approved a major greenfield shipbuilding cluster at Kuchhadi in Porbandar district, which is expected to enhance the region’s capabilities in shipbuilding.
To bolster the industrial ecosystem further, the proposal includes the development of common marine and land-based infrastructure valued at approximately Rs 3,300 crore, which aims to support and enhance the overall maritime industry in Gujarat.
