CMA CGM has achieved a significant milestone in maritime decarbonization with the launch of its first dual-fuel-methanol vessel, the CMA CGM Iron, in the port of Singapore. This 13,000 TEU ship is the first of twelve container ships in a new generation built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, with the full series expected to be in operation by 2025 and 2026.
In line with their commitment to achieve Net-Zero carbon emissions by 2050, CMA CGM is operating these ships with a focus on decarbonization. These dual-fuel-methanol vessels represent a step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the shipping industry. The CMA CGM Iron will be deployed on the CIPEX1 route, which connects Asia to the Gulf region of the Middle East.
The launch of the first dual-fuel-methanol container ship by CMA CGM in Singapore demonstrates the company’s dedication to sustainable practices and environmentally friendly shipping solutions. This initiative highlights CMA CGM’s leading role in the industry’s transition towards cleaner fuel options and reduced carbon footprints.
