DNV and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster collaboration on Software Defined Vessel (SDV) technologies and their verification frameworks. The agreement, signed during Gastech by HD KSOE President Kim Hyung-Kwan and DNV Regional Manager Vidar Dolonen, aims to merge HD KSOE’s advancements in SDV and digital ship systems with DNV’s expertise in assurance and certification.
The focus of the partnership is to develop SDV technologies that support the digital transformation of vessel operations, enhancing operational flexibility and lifecycle management. DNV will provide independent assurance for these technologies by applying relevant methodologies and verification frameworks, ensuring their secure and reliable implementation throughout the asset’s lifecycle.
The MOU outlines plans for knowledge exchange to bolster DNV’s assurance role regarding software-enabled maritime technologies. The collaboration may also include pilot projects, demonstrations, and engagement with industry stakeholders. Furthermore, the parties will investigate lifecycle assurance strategies for implementing SDV technologies on existing vessels, addressing software updates and changes. This collaboration is expected to continue until the end of 2030.
