MSC Cruises’ MSC World Asia has successfully completed its recent sea trials off the western coast of France, ahead of its scheduled delivery by Chantiers de l’Atlantique on November 25. The LNG-powered cruise ship underwent extensive testing in the Atlantic Ocean during the week of September 14, focusing on engine and safety system performance, maneuverability, fuel efficiency, speed, and stopping distances.
These final trials follow the vessel’s initial sea tests conducted in July. After this phase, MSC World Asia will return to Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s shipyard in Saint-Nazaire for final finishing touches before the official handover to MSC Cruises. This ship marks the third addition to MSC Cruises’ World Class series.
The delivery is set to take place three days prior to a naming ceremony in Le Havre on November 28, which will see representatives from the travel industry, invited guests, partners, and media in attendance.
Passengers are expected to board MSC World Asia in Barcelona on December 4 for its inaugural seven-night voyage. MSC Cruises plans to operate the ship on Mediterranean itineraries that will include destinations such as Italy, Malta, Spain, and France, with notable ports including Genoa, Civitavecchia, Messina, and Naples.
