Lloyd’s Register (LR) recently granted its first VC-L+ Descriptive Note for vessel connectivity to Neda Maritime’s MT ASCONA (VLCC), marking a significant milestone in the maritime industry. This recognition highlights the vessel’s advanced capabilities in livestreaming and real-time data exchange, providing ship operators with enhanced remote monitoring, compliance flexibility, and safety and efficiency improvements. LR’s stringent requirements for reliable vessel connectivity solutions, particularly focusing on livestreaming capabilities, were met by MT ASCONA, showcasing its cutting-edge technology and commitment to digitalization.

LR’s verification process of MT ASCONA’s vessel-shore connectivity system and onboard wireless network coverage was successfully completed in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, demonstrating the vessel’s ability to meet LR’s VC-L+ criteria. The tests included video and audio livestreaming from various onboard locations, showcasing the vessel’s advanced connectivity features such as real-time data streaming and high-speed communication capabilities. Konstantinos Chatzitolios, LR’s Lead Client Relationship Manager for Marine & Offshore in South Europe, emphasized the importance of MT ASCONA’s achievement in setting a precedent for other vessel operators to follow LR’s connectivity standards.

Theodore Asimakopoulos, Neda Maritime’s Technical Director for Tankers, expressed pride in their collaboration with LR and the development of Neda Maritime’s Virtual Presence Onboard (VPO) platform. This platform, initially created to address pandemic-related travel restrictions, has evolved into a valuable tool for remote surveys, audits, and troubleshooting. LR’s assignment of the VC-L+ notation to a vessel under their management signifies the dedication and resources invested in advancing innovative shipping solutions and embracing digitalization. This achievement underscores LR’s leadership in digital classification and commitment to providing clients with advanced solutions for improved maritime operations.
