The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) swiftly responded to a fire on board the Castphill XV in the waters near Patungan Maragondon, Cavite. The incident occurred at approximately 4:27 AM on March 30, prompting the PCG to dispatch BRP Boracay (FPB-2401) to rescue the seven crew members, including the captain. Fortunately, the crew members only sustained minor injuries during the rescue operation.
Following the initial rescue, the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Maragondon, Cavite, stepped in at around 7:35 AM to save an additional five crew members. These crew members were then taken to CGSS Maragondon for medical treatment. The vessel, Castphill XV, had departed from Delpan in Manila and was en route to Culion in Palawan. It was carrying a variety of goods, including general merchandise, hardware materials, rice, cement, and fuel stored in metal containers.
The PCG has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire on board the Castphill XV. The incident underscores the importance of the PCG’s swift response and rescue operations in ensuring the safety and well-being of maritime crew members in distress.
