Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has recently opened a new Maritime Training Centre (MTC) in Ghana, marking its sixth such institution. Situated on the campus of the Regional Maritime University in Accra, Ghana, the MTC offers courses tailored for cadets, officers, ratings, and hospitality crew for cruise ships. This initiative strengthens BSM’s partnership with the university, where a local representative office and cadet program were established in 2012.
Eva Rodriguez, HR Marine Director at BSM, emphasized the importance of the new training facility in meeting the growing demand for skilled crew in the region. By diversifying their crew pool and investing in local training, BSM is demonstrating its commitment to supporting the development of African seafarers. The African continent, with its rapidly growing population and significant economic potential, presents a promising market for maritime growth.
BSM has been actively training African seafarers for over a decade, recognizing the region as a key frontier for sourcing the next generation of maritime professionals. With a youthful and expanding population, Africa offers immense opportunities for the maritime industry. By starting training programs for African seafarers in 2012, BSM is positioning itself to tap into this potential and contribute to the growth and development of the maritime sector in the region.
