A crew member has died after falling from the Hebridean Princess cruise ship in the Sound of Mull, near Oban, on Tuesday evening. The incident was reported just after 20:00, prompting a response from the Oban Coastguard Rescue Team. At the time of the accident, 38 people were aboard the vessel, operated by Hebridean Island Cruises.
Following the fall, the cruise operator said that crew on board acted immediately, and authorities, including HM Coastguard and Police Scotland, were quickly notified. The company stated it is fully supporting ongoing inquiries and working closely with the relevant authorities. The next of kin of the deceased crewman have been informed, and Hebridean Island Cruises expressed condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
Police Scotland confirmed they received a report of a man’s body found in the water near Corran Esplanade in Oban at around 20:30. They have indicated that the death is not being treated as suspicious and will submit a report to the procurator fiscal in due course.
The cruise line emphasized that, due to the ongoing investigation, no further details would be released at this time. The incident has deeply affected the small ship’s community, as support is being offered to those impacted by the tragedy.
