On May 28, 2026, a Japanese delegation met with officials from the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla. The meeting, chaired by DPA Chairman Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, aimed to enhance maritime cooperation and explore future opportunities in the sector.
Discussions focused on port-led development, infrastructure enhancement, technological innovation, and sustainable growth. The delegation identified potential collaboration areas in shipbuilding and port infrastructure, indicating a strong interest in expanding their maritime ventures.
Previously, the delegation visited Kandla to assess opportunities in shipbuilding and repair activities. They sought information on the port’s operational capacity and future expansion plans to understand the local industrial ecosystem better.
The visit included in-depth site tours, allowing the delegation to evaluate proposed shipyard locations and development zones in Kandla and Veera. They assessed logistical connectivity and the feasibility of establishing shipbuilding facilities. The meeting ended with both parties expressing a desire for continued discussions on investment and technical cooperation, positioning DPA Kandla as a significant hub for maritime development under India’s strategic vision.
