NexusWave, the fully managed connectivity service from Inmarsat Maritime, a subsidiary of Viasat, has received Cyber Security Type Approval from ClassNK. This certification follows a thorough evaluation of NexusWave’s onboard Information and Communication Technology (ICT) architecture and its components, confirming compliance with the latest IACS cyber security standard, Unified Requirement UR E27 (Rev.1).
UR E27 outlines essential requirements for the cyber resilience of shipboard systems, ensuring these systems are designed to minimize the likelihood of cyber incidents that could jeopardize their safe and reliable operation. ClassNK not only assessed each individual component of NexusWave but also reviewed the system as a whole, taking into account the integrated onboard ICT architecture and relevant orchestration processes.
Gert-Jan Panken, General Manager and Vice President of Inmarsat Maritime, emphasized the importance of cyber resilience for shipowners, stating that the certification validates NexusWave’s robust security framework. Meanwhile, Taro Okamoto, ClassNK’s General Manager, highlighted the significance of their partnership with industry leaders like Inmarsat in enhancing cyber-resilient maritime technologies, reinforcing ClassNK’s commitment to maritime safety through impartial verification and certification.
