The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the World Maritime University (WMU) have formalized their ongoing partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This agreement underscores both organizations’ dedication to cultivating maritime leaders and enhancing capacity development within the global maritime community. The MOU was inked by MPA’s Chief Executive, Mr. Ang Wee Keong, and WMU’s President, Professor Maximo Q. Mejia, Jr., during the 137th Session of the International Maritime Organization Council in London.

This new MOU builds on previous agreements from 2015 and 2019, aiming to strengthen collaboration between MPA and WMU in training and workforce development for the maritime industry. The agreement outlines plans for joint specialized training initiatives, faculty and expertise exchanges, and enhanced opportunities for knowledge sharing among members of both institutions.

The collaboration dates back to 2004 when MPA began hosting WMU students for annual field studies in Singapore. Since then, over 400 students from 70 different countries have participated in these programs. Under the latest MOU, MPA will continue these field studies and promote WMU’s professional development courses focused on shipping and port-related subjects to maritime professionals in Singapore.
