The Navi Mumbai police have dismantled an employment scam, leading to the arrest of two individuals who allegedly defrauded 17 job seekers of ₹41.75 lakh by promising them high-paying positions on foreign merchant ships. Authorities reported that a case has been filed against a total of 12 suspects involved in the operation.

The investigation began when the Financial Intelligence Unit received a complaint from six candidates who were misled under the guise of foreign ship placements. The accused reportedly ran a fraudulent company from a mall in Nerul, falsely asserting that they possessed a legitimate Recruitment and Placement Services License (RPSL) issued by the Director General of Shipping.

To attract job seekers, the scammers circulated enticing advertisements through another business, promoting lucrative maritime career opportunities. However, despite the promises made, none of the victims received employment on any foreign vessels.

In total, the complainant and the other 16 victims collectively paid ₹41,75,000 to the perpetrators, who ultimately failed to deliver on their job offers. The police continue to investigate the case as they work to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the scheme.
