Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned accusations from the Houthi military spokesperson alleging that the Kingdom is imposing a blockade on Yemen and threatening to obstruct maritime navigation to Saudi waters. In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized its commitment to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, highlighting ongoing cooperation with Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
The ministry pointed out that Saudi Arabia has actively supported Yemen through various initiatives, including development projects, financial aid for the Yemeni government’s budget, and the provision of fuel to power stations. During the first half of the year, over 300 vessels carrying essential supplies, such as food, commercial goods, and construction materials, successfully docked at northern Yemeni ports like Hodeidah, Al Salif, and Ras Isa.
Furthermore, the Saudi government reiterated its dedication to achieving peace in Yemen and ending the suffering experienced by its people. It has backed UN-led peace efforts and a roadmap accepted by the Yemeni government, while criticizing the Houthis for their lack of cooperation and involvement in regional conflicts that exacerbate the situation for Yemenis living under their control.
The statement urged the international community to uphold its obligations under relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly those concerning Yemen and maritime navigation in the Red Sea. Saudi Arabia affirmed its intent to protect its vessels in line with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, reiterating its support for the Yemeni people and their government.
