Svitzer has signed a global EcoTow agreement with the Wallenius Wilhelmsen group, marking a significant step in Svitzer’s decarbonization journey. The agreement supports Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s ambition to reduce Scope 3 emissions across Svitzer’s global operations. Tug jobs in key markets such as Australia, the UK, and Scandinavia will be covered by the agreement, allowing Svitzer to use biofuels and bank the resulting CO₂ savings in its emissions ledger. These savings will then be allocated to Wallenius Wilhelmsen, helping the company reduce emissions related to towage.

Ove Moring, Senior Manager Supplier Contracting & Equipment at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, emphasized the importance of partnerships in decarbonization efforts. Collaborating with Svitzer provides a reliable path to reduce emissions beyond direct operations. The agreement reflects a growing customer demand for voluntary emissions reduction schemes that exceed regulatory requirements. It also showcases how Svitzer’s unique approach can support customers in accelerating their climate strategies.

The EcoTow agreement is not just a solution for the present but also a bridge to more transformative change, according to Svitzer’s Head of Decarbonisation, Gareth Prowse. The partnership between Svitzer and Wallenius Wilhelmsen demonstrates the significance of working together to achieve environmental goals. By utilizing biofuels and innovative solutions, both companies are contributing to a more sustainable future and setting a positive example for the maritime industry.
