The CMA CGM Group recently celebrated the naming ceremony of the CMA CGM NOTRE DAME in Le Havre, marking the addition of the largest containership flying the French flag. At nearly 400 meters long and 61 meters wide, this vessel boasts a capacity of up to 24,000 TEUs, making it the largest LNG-powered containership globally. Its innovative LNG propulsion technology significantly reduces emissions of harmful pollutants compared to traditional marine fuels.
The CMA CGM NOTRE DAME is the first of ten next-generation containerships designed for enhanced efficiency, all registered under the French flag. This initiative aligns with CMA CGM’s goal to accelerate the energy transition in maritime transport while ensuring high operational performance on key Asia-Europe routes. The company’s French-flagged fleet is set to expand from 30 to 40 vessels by 2028, with plans to recruit 135 French seafarers.
Named in honor of one of France’s cultural landmarks, the NOTRE DAME will serve as an ambassador for French industrial and maritime excellence. The ceremony brought together notable figures, including Le Havre’s Mayor Édouard Philippe, maritime authorities, and the dedicated crew who will operate the vessel.
