The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported that the seven Filipino seafarers injured in the May 5 drone attack on the CMA CGM San Antonio are now in stable condition and recovering. DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac provided this update as the vessel was navigating through the Middle East when the incident occurred.
Cacdac confirmed that all injured crew members are stable, with two expected to return to the Philippines shortly. The remaining five are still hospitalized in Oman, receiving necessary medical treatment. The DMW is facilitating support for the families of the injured seafarers, enabling them to travel to Oman for personal visits during the recovery period.
The DMW is actively collaborating with relevant government agencies, the shipping company, and the manning agency to ensure the well-being of the affected seafarers. The Philippine government previously acknowledged that the CMA CGM San Antonio was targeted in a drone attack in the Strait of Hormuz, amidst escalating tensions in the region.
This incident underscores the dangers Filipino seafarers encounter while working in conflict-prone maritime areas, highlighting the ongoing risks associated with their profession.
