Visakhapatnam Port Authority has made a significant achievement by successfully berthing the MV Graceous, a 292-metre Cape-sized bulk carrier, at its EQ-1 berth in the inner harbour. This milestone marks the first time such a large vessel has been accommodated at this location, demonstrating the port’s expanding operational capabilities.

The MV Graceous, which arrived earlier this week, is carrying 100,198 metric tonnes of coal intended for power generation and industrial use in eastern India. With a beam of 45 metres and a draft of 12.2 metres, this vessel showcases the port’s ability to handle larger cargo.

This development signifies a major enhancement of Visakhapatnam Port’s ability to accommodate bulk carriers, as it now operates more than one berth compliant with Cape-sized vessel requirements. This expansion not only increases the port’s capacity but also strengthens its overall cargo handling infrastructure.

The successful berthing of MV Graceous cements Visakhapatnam Port’s role as a key gateway for large vessels on India’s east coast. It continues to handle a variety of cargo, including iron ore and containers, unlocking new opportunities for bulk cargo imports.
