Passengers on the cruise ship AIDAnova experienced a dramatic rescue operation on Sunday, October 18, as the vessel traveled from Kiel, Germany, to Norway. The ship was alerted to a fishing boat engulfed in flames in the Skagerrak strait between Norway and Denmark. In response, Norway’s Southern rescue force dispatched a helicopter and called for nearby vessels to assist. The AIDAnova, a large cruise ship accommodating over 5,200 passengers, was embarking on its journey to several Norwegian ports.
As the situation unfolded, passengers captured footage of the flames and smoke from the burning fishing vessel. The crew of the AIDAnova deployed a fast launch to approach the distressed boat, where four individuals had already evacuated to a liferaft. Danish authorities also prepared a helicopter to aid in the rescue, confirming that the fishing vessel was registered in Denmark.
Fortunately, the four people from the fishing boat were safely brought aboard the AIDAnova and reported to be unharmed. Following the successful rescue, the cruise ship continued its voyage to Norway, carrying the survivors with it. The cause of the fire on the fishing vessel remains unclear.
