The innovative new 42,000 dwt bulk carrier named ‘Bingo42’ is a joint development between Onomichi Dockyard and Tsuneishi Shipbuilding, two well-established Japanese shipbuilders. The name Bingo 42 stands for ‘Beyond Innovation, Navigating Green Ocean’, reflecting the shared challenge of designing new vessels. Traditionally, Japanese shipyards handle all design stages individually, leading to a heavy design workload. This burden is expected to increase with the rise of alternative fuel vessels, prompting the need to invest resources wisely in valuable technologies for customers. By collaborating, Onomichi and Tsuneishi aim to establish a cooperative system based on shared values and objectives.
Bingo42 is a handy size bulk carrier that complements both companies’ existing product ranges. Through collaborative development, the shipyards are enhancing the vessel design by leveraging their previous experience. They have optimized the hull form, increasing cargo capacity and fuel efficiency for Onomichi’s 40BC and improving fuel efficiency for Tsuneishi’s TESS42. The installation of MT-FAST as an energy-saving measure has further enhanced propulsion performance and fuel efficiency. The design, which is methanol dual-fueled, has achieved a significant reduction in emissions compared to the reference line.
The joint project between Onomichi and Tsuneishi involves discussions on how to improve each other’s conventional hull forms. By increasing the length of the hull form by 3m and optimizing its design, the vessel’s performance has been significantly enhanced. The collaboration has resulted in improved fuel efficiency, making the Bingo42 a promising addition to both companies’ fleets. By combining their expertise and resources, Onomichi and Tsuneishi are paving the way for more sustainable and efficient shipping solutions in the future.
