The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has introduced the Seafarer Discharge Book Management Portal, a digital platform aimed at enhancing the application, verification, and issuance processes for Seafarers’ Discharge Books. This launch coincided with the 2026 Day of the Seafarer celebrations in Lagos.
Dr. Dayo Mobereola, NIMASA’s Director General, emphasized that this initiative marks a significant step in the agency’s digital transformation efforts. He highlighted the importance of providing efficient and secure systems for seafarers, who play a crucial role in global trade. The new portal is designed to eliminate bureaucratic hurdles, improve the integrity of the certification process, and demonstrate NIMASA’s commitment to the welfare and competitiveness of Nigerian seafarers.
The portal features a comprehensive digital process starting with the verification of applicants’ National Identification Numbers (NIN), facilitated through integration with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). After successful authentication, applicants can register their accounts, verify their email using a One-Time Password (OTP), and undergo live facial capture to confirm their identities, ensuring a streamlined and secure experience.
