The recent advisory follows a series of piracy incidents that have taken place in the region since April 2026. This alarming trend has prompted authorities to take action to safeguard maritime operations.
In response, the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) has issued a directive urging all stakeholders involved in maritime activities to enhance their security measures. This includes shipowners, operators, masters, company security officers (CSOs), and recruitment and placement service license (RPSL) agencies.
The DGMA recommends that these parties adhere to the latest version of the Best Management Practices (BMP 5). This guidance is designed to bolster defenses against piracy and other maritime security threats, ensuring safer transit through the affected areas.
By implementing BMP 5, maritime stakeholders can better prepare for potential risks and protect their vessels and crews from piracy-related incidents. The proactive approach is essential in maintaining safety and security on the high seas.
